Festive Porcelain Leaf Decorations with Sarah May Rogers

celebrate the festive season with a relaxing afternoon of ceramics, botanicals and cake

Saturday 16th November 1.30pm - 4pm

“Everyone must take time to sit and watch the leaves change.”

― Elizabeth Lawrence

Join local ceramicist Sarah May Rogers and I for a relaxed afternoon here at Wildling Studio. Sarah will guide you through the creation of beautifully delicate and ephemeral porcelain leaves, perfect as decorations or worn as brooches or necklaces. This process has been created and devised by Sarah, so is unique to her - I am completely thrilled that she is sharing her secrets with us!

Accessible for everyone, we will be painting leaves with porcelain slip - a very meditative and absorbing activity. Weather allowing we will begin the afternoon with a walk on the land to collect leaves and natural treasures to inspire our work.

At the end of the workshop you will leave your pieces at the studio for firing and they will be ready for you to collect a couple of weeks later (postage can be arranged at cost).

During the afternoon we will take a break to enjoy delicious homemade festive treats, lashings of tea and friendly chat with fellow Wildlings as we spend time getting to know each other.

Find out more about Sarah May Rogers

Working from her studio near Bath, Sarah is inspired by the ecology of plants and organisms found around trees in nearby woodlands. She uses porcelain to express the interconnectedness of life and growth with decay and the return to the earth. Porcelain is a beautiful material with which to observe lichen, fungi and leaves: once fired, the unglazed works allude to the fragility and vulnerability of our forest ecosystems.
