Birth Of Spring Pottery Vase Workshop

Celebrate Imbolc and the return of the light with us

Sunday 4th February 1.30pm - 4pm
£65

“The promise of renewal breaks through the dark earth with the first Spring flowers”.

Join resident ceramicist Sarah Glazier-Hart for a relaxed afternoon here at Wildling Studio. As our thoughts turn to Spring and lighter days ahead come and celebrate Imbolc with us by creating some botanical ceramics. Bring a friend along or come solo and meet some new friendly faces.

Sarah will guide you step by step through the creation of your very own ceramics using the technique of coil building. You’ll be creating a vase ready for those Spring flowers and learning the technique of slip resist. Together we will create paper transfers for our vases which will be applied before painting on the slip. The vases will then be fired and the transfers will burn away leaving the imprint behind before Sarah glazes and completes the final fire. Suitable for beginners as well as the more experienced makers,  Sarah will teach you hand building techniques, decorative techniques and refined finishing.

During the afternoon we’ll enjoy delicious homemade cake and lashings of tea.

What is Coil Building?

Coil building is one of the most primitive pottery techniques and has been used to shape clay vessels for many thousands of years. The technique allows more control of the walls allowing the opportunity to increase the height, shape and size of the vessel with less danger of it collapsing. It is the perfect method for both beginners and the more experienced alike.
